Citrus Heights is a city with a population of 85,000 and a total area of 14 square miles in Sacramento, California.

History. During the mid-16th to mid-19th centuries its territory was limited to a narrow coastal strip. With the Gold rush of 1849 the Californian population sharply increased and the territory saw a steady development ever since. From 1950 to the end of the millennium present-day Citrus Heights remained a part of Sacramento County`s Central Township in the state of California. In 1997 the city was finally incorporated after a decades-long struggle with the County Board of Supervisors.

Climate. Citrus Height enjoys dry and hot summers with average temperature of 76° Fahrenheit and almost no rains during the three months of June, July and August. Winters are mild with average 45° in December. Months from November to March are characterized by fog and rainy weather. There are approx. 265 sunny days during the year.

Community boundaries. Within the Sacramento County, Citrus Heights neighbors with Fair Oaks and Carmichael in the south, North Highlands in the west and Antelope in the north.

Although Citrus Heights is better described as a residential neighborhood, there are still some options for excellent dining, shopping, fun time with family, and night life within the city boundaries.

The Citrus Town Center is one of the favorite places for shopping and dining in Citrus Heights. Unlike past times, nowadays is really clean and well maintained. Apart from Sprout’s Farmers Market for organic grocery shopping, there are several places to eat such as Black Angus, Round Table Pizza, Wingstop, and the Mexican Taqueria. The bookstore with half-priced books may become a gem for avid readers.

Sunrise Mall. A shopping mall with around 90 retailers, Sunrise Mall remains a popular place to take a relaxing walk through the stores, shop for clothing, watch a movie or enjoy a cup of coffee. This place is rarely crowded and has wide walkways with comfortable seating to just relax.

Sunrise Rollerland is a roller skating rink close to the Sunrise Mall. It`s a great place to drop the kids while you shop or take a coffee break.

Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes is a bowling alley for fun family times with great food, friendly staff and all the usual features. This place is a great choice for budget children`s parties with reasonable prices and discounts.

Stones Gambling Hall is probably the best place to play poker in Sacramento. Visitors appreciate the professional and friendly staff, excellent food menu and low alcohol prices.

The Couch is a friendly bar with food menu, live music, pool table, convenient sitting area and plenty of parking places. Corner Pocket is another nightlife place great for pool, darts or watching sports. Distinguished for its comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, it offers live music on Saturday nights and may get quite full during the weekend.

Sanctuary Salon & Spa offers a variety of services including massage, hair, nail and skin care, eye lash extensions, waxing and teeth whitening. It is distinguished for outstanding staff members and great service quality. Happy Day Spa is another location in the area which offers massage and spa.

The famous Golden State killer were living in Citrus Heights since 1980 until he was arrested in 2018. He has at least 13 murders, 50 rapes and 100 robberies on his conscience. The crimes were committed during the time period from 1974 to 1986. The suspect was identified with the help of personal genomics website, which allowed to find distant relatives of the killer.

• Bill Conroy, a backup catcher who played in Major League Baseball between 1935 and 1944.
• Kelley Jones, a comics artist known for his work on Batman and The Sandman.
• Mandisa Lynn Hundley, a gospel and contemporary Christian recording artist.

DART Crab Feed and Rotary Club Crab Feed. Typically held each January and February respectively, the events are held in the Citrus Heights Community Center. Join for amazing crab dinner, great music and entertainment. These events are fundraisers for the local non-profit organizations.

Marching Band Spaghetti Feed. Held in March each year at the Community Center, the Citrus Heights Marching Band’s annual spaghetti feed helps raise funds to keep the nonprofit band going.

Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt. Typically held on a Saturday in March or April preceding Easter, the annual Kiwanis Club Easter Egg Hunt is a popular attraction for kids and families at Rusch Park.

Pet-A-Palooza. Held each April at Rusch Park, the annual pet-centered event draws thousands of people to Citrus Heights.

Taste of Citrus Heights. The event features food and beverage samples from many local vendors and helps raise funds for a police program.

Senior Health Fair. Held in May each year at the community center, the annual Senior Health Fair features free exhibits, workshops, health screenings, and other activities.

Red, White, and Blue Parade. Held on the final Saturday in June each year, the city’s popular parade draws thousands out to Sunrise Boulevard. The parade begins just north of Madison Avenue and concludes in front of Sunrise Mall.

• Originally the area was called “Sylvan”; the name was changed to “Citrus Heights” in 1910 by a real estate developer.
• There are about 310 acres of parks and open space in Citrus Heights.

• The lowest temperature was recorded in December 11, 1932, at 17°.
• The hottest day on record is 114° on July 17, 1925
• The largest mall in the region was the Sunrise Mall when it opened in 1972.
• Ted Mitchell, 91, is believed to be the longest resident of the city, having lived in Citrus Heights his entire life.
• One of the first female firefighting organizations in the US, Ladies Auxiliary was formed in 1942.

A public bus transportation is currently provided within the city limits. Approximately 10 miles from the Citrus Heights there is a railway station accessible in Roseville. Sacramento International Airport is about 20 miles away. Citrus Heights is located between the major freeways and highways. The Capital City Freeway begins near Citrus Heights and ends in Downtown Sacramento.
