In 2003, Rancho Cordova officially became the 478th city in California. It is situated in the east of Sacramento and has a military base and a base of a successfully developing aerospace company. • The first names of the place were Hangtown Crossing and Mayhew’s Crossing (it was a period of the Gold Rush time);
• Cordova Vineyard was the official name of the city itself (there were the other names throughout the years, including Cordova Village and Cordova Vineyards);
• The community was formed in 1955 with the appearance of the post office;
• In the middle of the 19th century, the place was a concentration of mining, and some of the mining area remnants can still be observed nowadays;
• In 1893, the local community was named “Mills” because there were many grist mills close to the river;
• In 1844, after the death of William Leidesdorff, 35,500 acres of Rancho Rio De Los Americanos was purchased by Capt. Joseph Folsom (yes, this man was evidently the founder of Folsom);
• Numerous train stations, hotels, shops, and establishments started opening along the route after the miners’ departure, piercing Rancho Cordova, and some of them served as post offices;
• In 1849, the Magnolia House was opened — an inn, which is now known as the old Brighton Station building;
• In 1866, a train station was established in the area of Folsom Boulevard, and it still exists under the name of Pfingst Realty;
• In the middle and end of the 19th century, the community was busy growing orchards and dealing with wine yards;
• The Mills station existing till nowadays was built in 1911;
• Since 1949, Mills Station was purchased by several people in a row, and in 1991 it was turned into a community center.
