      History

      Originally Arden-Arcade used to belong to Mexico, then granted and negotiated, and finally purchased for $1.5 million by the Sacramento Valley Colonization Company in 1910. At the beginning of the XX century, the place was not crowded: here lived several dozens of people, well-known throughout the state for their high-quality horse breeding business. The name Arcade comes from the Arcade Creek — a major meadow or oaks: they were used to tie up horses that were transferred by rail to other parts of the country. The shape of the oak trees resembled several arches that support walls, what we call an arcade in architecture. This is a beautiful explanation of the city name’s origin.

      The early residential homes and neighborhoods appeared in Arden-Arcade in the 1920s and 1930s, when the city started expanding. Nevertheless, most of the residential buildings were erected much later, in 1970s and 1980s, so the city planning, and buildings are relatively new.

      Shopping and Entertainment

      Arden-Arcade becomes a center of many luxury suburbs of Sacramento, this way it is explainable why the place becomes a popular shopping area and one of the key retail areas for the people living in Sacramento.
